Welcome to Geek Puzzles

I am proud and excited to welcome you to Geek Puzzles dot com. As a software developer and amateur puzzle-setter, I purchased this domain over 20 years ago. I intended to build a site and run it as a hobby project, with new small puzzles released daily (or at least frequently). Clearly that never happened.

The conceit of this project was that each puzzle would incorporate some specific domain knowledge within music, movies, television, and other popular culture interests. Hence the "geek" in Geek Puzzles, putting the idea firmly into niche-of-a-niche territory. That was fine by me since I would be building for a target audience of essentially myself.

Over the years I created a handful of puzzles, but they were only ever published elsewhere, if at all. I also joined with some friends to form a small puzzle hunt crew, and eventually I got the hankering to try creating my own small puzzle hunt. My friends obliged me and acted as my playtesters (and indeed the primary audience of my hunts) as I did this several times. Then things went dormant for a while, but I had in the back of my mind an idea for a larger "concept album" hunt.

I completed development on the newest hunt right around the time one of my puzzle crew members became a new parent, which meant my usual guinea pigs were not going to be available for a while. I became determined to use this time as an opportunity to finally develop the Geek Puzzles website as a primary source for publishing my hunts, with answer checking and a hint system inspired by the great experiences we've had with Galactic Puzzle Hunt over the years. Of course, I always have to do things my own way, and I couldn't just use their open-source code.

And now the site is finally here. I cannot predict how often I will add new content or features, but if nothing else it will stand as a place to find the four puzzle hunts I have lovingly crafted so far with a niche audience in mind.
